1. When can I move into my residence hall?

All new students are required to move in between 8:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2005. All other students may move in any time beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2005.
Move in dates are tenative.

2. What supplies should I bring for my room?  

Pillows
Personal items (i.e., soap, hair dryer, etc.)
Blankets
Sheets, pillow cases (unless you rent)
Clock
Telephone
Laundry soap
Life’s necessities
Towels, washcloths
Desk lamp

3. What is supplied by the Housing Office? 

Beds
Mattress pads
Desks
Closet/dresser space
Desk chairs
Smoke detector
Draperies
Phonemail

4. What supplies are available in the residence halls?

Cleaning (i.e., cleanser, window cleaner, brooms, etc.)*
Toilet paper *
Garbage bags
Light bulbs*
Vacuums (usually held by RAs)

*These materials are not supplied to Brady or Osborn residents because custodians are employed for the upkeep of the bathrooms and common areas.

5. What can I rent?   

Mini and microfridges: $40 per year for small mini fridges - $75 per year for the microfridge, which is a refrigerator, freezer and microwave all in one unit (limited supply).

Linen service: $27 per semester. Includes two towels, two sheets, and one pillow case. Clean linens are exchanged once a week.

6. What are the mattress sizes?  

Most mattresses in the residence halls are extra long (80”).

7. What else can I bring to my room? 

Mini fridges (up to 5.0 cubic feet & up to 37" high)
Small microwave ovens
Crates or other storage material
Posters or pictures (please use poster putty to hang these items; this saves on wall damage)
TV, radios, stereos, CD players, etc. (outside antennas are NOT allowed, so make sure these items do not require one.)
Study lamps
Popcorn poppers
Carpeting (Brady rooms are carpeted)
Plants
Computers
Fish tanks (30-gallon max. Fish are the only pets allowed in the residence halls.)
Personal items
 

8. What can't I bring in my room?

Weapons and ammunition
Hot plates
Waterbeds
Electric frying pans
Multiple outlet adapters
Air conditioners
Toasters & toaster ovens
Combustibles (propane, pressurized cylinders, etc)
Space heaters

Sun lamps

9. Where do I get my room key?

Check-in is in the Norris Center on opening day and in the Housing Office after opening day. Room keys will be given out at check-in.

10. Where can I do my laundry?

Most buildings have laundry facilities in the basement.
Washers and dryers are operated free.

11. How do I get into the food service hall?

Meals are served in the Quarterdeck or you may eat some of your meals in the Galley Snack Bar (in the basement of the Cisler Center).

11. How do I get into the food service hall? 

All students need an I.D. with a magnetic strip. I.D.s will be taken in the Cisler Center during Fall Class Scheduling, and again the first week of classes. You will need your I.D. to get into the Quarterdeck.

12. Where do I get my mail? 

The Housing Office delivers mail shortly after noon Monday through Saturday, except for holidays, to Brady, Osborn, the Student Village, and Row Houses. The post office delivers to the rest of the buildings. Brady mailboxes are in the basement at the west end of Brady Hall. Osborn mailboxes are in Osborn Hall’s main lobby and Student Village mailboxes are in the basement of "A" Tower (Youngs House). Room keys open students’ mailboxes.

Although the post office delivers mail to the Townhouses’ locking mailboxes, the Housing Office delivers mail to the boxes located on the outside wall by the main entrance door. You may pick up packages in the Housing Office.

13. Is cable TV available? 

Cable TV can be contracted for with Charter Communications (contact them at (906) 635-1526).

14. How do I access the Internet from my room? 

Information is available by contacting the LSSU Help Desk.
