Filing the FAFSA and Renewal of FAFSA

Apply early to be considered for the most funds

For priority consideration, your FAFSA or renewal FAFSA must be received by March 1st.  Late applicants will be considered for aid, but some funds may not be available. Students must be admitted with degree-seeking status.

Filing the FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the only application required and accepted by LSSU to apply for federal, state and institutional financial aid. The information you provide in the FAFSA form is kept strictly confidential. You may file a printed version of the FAFSA or file electronically using FAFSA on the Web.

To obtain the printed version of the FAFSA, you may contact your high school guidance office, a college financial aid office, or the LSSU Financial Aid Office.

Instructions and tips on filing the FAFSA are available from the federal government and the LSSU Financial Aid Office.

Filing the Renewal FAFSA

Current LSSU students who applied for financial aid for the current award year should receive a Renewal FAFSA from the Federal Processor. The Renewal FAFSA will contain federal instructions for completing it as well. The Renewal FAFSA has been pre-printed by the U.S. Department of Education and provides spaces for responses and corrections. Students may also file Renewal FAFSA on the Web and must first request an Electronic Access Code (EAC) for security purposes.

Call 1-800-801-0576 if you have technical questions about submitting an electronic FAFSA.
Call 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) if you have general questions about what information you need to report on the FAFSA. You may also contact the LSSU Financial Aid Office at 1-888-800-LSSU ext. 2678.
Call 1-800-433-3243 if you have questions on the status of your application; you may also check your status electronically for 21 days after your initial application.

What Happens Next?

Four to six weeks after you submit your FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the U.S. Department of Education. This report will show your Expected Family Contribution and your Federal Pell Grant eligibility. After reviewing these forms for accuracy, you may keep the SAR with your records. We will receive the same information electronically, determine your eligibility, and send you an award notification of what types of aid you are eligible to receive to attend LSSU, along with an informational brochure explaining the financial aid process at LSSU in detail.

If, after reviewing the information on your SAR, you need to make changes, indicate the changes on Part 2 of your SAR, sign and submit all copies back to the Federal Processor.  If these changes result in an adjustment to your award, you will be notified by the Financial Aid Office.
